Building chemistry in a new Chemistry Building

The study of chemistry is a distinct part of Ohio University’s history. OHIO’s first chemistry course was authorized nearly 200 years ago in 1822. And in 1955, OHIO’s Board of Trustees approved the creation of the University’s first doctoral program—in chemistry.

This year marks another milestone in that history as OHIO unveiled a new home for its growing Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Step inside the new Chemistry Building’s state-of-the-art labs, where undergraduate and graduate students are putting the lessons learned in the classroom to practice through experimentation and cutting-edge research. And see the world-class instrumentation contributing to scientific breakthroughs in fields ranging from health care to technology.
